Roommates with Complicated Benefits

Last night, my bed played host to an assortment of items - tequila, furry handcuffs, shame, and a 6'2" attractive man with a black eye. This morning, shame was still present. My troublesome roommate had unexpectedly moved out, renting her "room" to a man her brother's coworker's cousin "knows really well." She believes we'll hit it off, but I voiced my concerns about anything fire-related being a good idea, especially given that this stranger and I will now be sharing the same space, separated only by a "privacy" divider.

Regrettably, the situation has only worsened. Ethan Huntington, the new occupant, is the most irritating, frustrating, pompous know-it-all I've ever encountered. When I tried to be friendly and learn more about him, he responded with, "Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies." As I walked away, rolling my eyes, I heard him laughing, as if he had the last word.

Ethan believes he's a gift to women, solely due to his good looks. I'll admit, I've caught glimpses of his shirtless form, and it's certainly had an impact. However, that doesn't mean I'll succumb to his charms. Or, at least, that was the plan.

One night, we ended up playing cards and drinking too much. Yes, we had a single night together, but that's all it will be. I refuse to let this one-night mistake prevent me from finding Mr. Right, even though Ethan is still living with me and constantly occupying my thoughts.

And then, the first letter arrived, changing everything. Perhaps that one-night mistake was just the beginning of something truly special.
